Stamford Health Expands Services for Pediatric Patients at Cohen Children’s Specialty Center
New Services Include Nutrition Counseling, Leading Pediatric Neurosurgery Experts and More
Stamford, CT / July 22, 2025 – Kids and their families can now receive even more world-class medical care, closer to home.
Stamford Health has expanded the endocrinology, pulmonology, neurosurgery, nutrition, and gastroenterology services it offers at Cohen Children’s Specialty Center, bringing together renowned experts in their respective fields. These include:
- Neurosurgeons Dr. Neil Feldstein of Columbia University Medical Center and Dr. Michael E. Tobias of the Brain and Spine Surgeons of New York
- Endocrinologist Raul Arguello, MD, who specializes in growth disorders and is Stamford Health’s Chair of Pediatrics
- Pediatric Clinical Dietitian, Ilaria St. Florian, MS RD
- Pulmonologist Joseph Boyer, MD and gastroenterologist Mira Kothari, MD, of Boston Children’s Health Physicians
“Our new pediatric care services are an exciting step forward for Stamford Health and the families we serve,” said Dr. Arguello. “Parents with children that require specialty health care experience significant emotional and logistical stressors. By expanding access to high-quality care right here in Stamford, we’re helping make it easier for families to access the medical care they need much closer to home.”
Originally opened in 2006 and renovated in 2012, Stamford Health’s Cohen Children’s Specialty Center treats approximately 4,000 patients annually, ranging from ages 0-18, including newly graduated neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) babies. The Cohen Children’s Specialty Center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities designed with treating children in mind and operated by board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric specialists. Existing pediatric services include the NICU graduate program, gastroenterology, general surgery, neurology, neuropsychology, and orthopedics.
The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Children’s Institute at Stamford Health provides a breadth of advanced care options from highly trained pediatricians for patients from infancy through young adulthood. In addition to the Specialty Center, this includes:
- The Cohen Children’s Unit, lower Fairfield County’s only inpatient unit featuring around-the-clock pediatric hospitalists providing advanced, specialized care
- The Cohen Pediatric Emergency Department, lower Fairfield County’s only comprehensive pediatric emergency department operating 24/7 separated from the adult emergency department
- The Cohen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), an award-winning level III NICU staffed by experienced neonatologists, nurses and pediatric specialists recently renovated in 2023
