Stamford Health Receives a Five Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

STAMFORD, CT / May 15, 2026 – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently updated their Overall Hospital Quality Star ratings, awarding Stamford Hospital five stars, the highest rating available from CMS. This year, Stamford Hospital was one of 4 hospitals in Connecticut and is among 12% of hospitals nationwide to receive five stars.

The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star rating program measures performance across nearly 50 publicly reported quality measures, grouped into five domains: mortality, re-admission, safety, patient experience, and timely/effective care. Stamford Hospital performed strongly across these areas.

“The CMS Star recognition program evaluates performance across numerous measures and care areas, making this a significant quality and safety achievement for our organization,” said Rohit Bhalla, MD, MPH, Chief Clinical & Quality Officer at Stamford Health. “Because the program assesses so many aspects of care, this recognition is a true testament to the daily dedication of our physicians and staff.”

In addition to receiving 5 stars from CMS, Stamford Health is recognized by several other organizations for delivering expert, person-centered care, earning numerous national distinctions. Stamford Hospital is ranked the #1 Hospital in Fairfield County by U.S. News & World Report, has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Gold Standard Top Hospital for 2026, holds Magnet® status for nursing excellence, an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group, is Planetree Gold-Certified for Excellence in Person-Centered Care, and is a Certified™ Great Place to Work.

“It is because of these awards and recognitions that Stamford Health is Connecticut’s most highly awarded hospital, and our five-star rating from CMS further exemplifies our commitment to providing high-quality, person-centered care to the communities we serve,” remarked Kathleen Silard, President & CEO of Stamford Health. “I would like to thank our dedicated staff and physicians for their hard work and compassion to which we owe these achievements.”
