Stamford Health Launches “Glammogram” Program to Kick-Off Women’s Health Month

New initiative aims to celebrate patients for prioritizing their health, reduce fear of mammograms.

Stamford, CT, May 29, 2024 – To celebrate Women’s Health Month, Stamford Health kicked off a new initiative called a "Glammogram." Designed to encourage women to prioritize their health and reduce the anxiety of a mammogram, Stamford Health offered complimentary express manicures or massages to patients who scheduled a mammogram or screening at its Breast Center at the Tully Health Center location on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

The first Glammogram saw nearly 60 patients who participated in this unique and fun experience. Members of Stamford Health’s radiology and breast center teams were onsite for the first event and received words of praise and comfort from the community. “This initiative really took away my fear of getting a mammogram,” said a grateful patient. “It was a pleasant surprise and I look forward to booking my next appointment.”

“As a breast radiologist, I know firsthand the anxiety that some patients have coming in for a mammogram. We want to pair the ideas of a woman doing something glamorous to care for herself and a woman having a mammogram. This particular event is meant to lighten the mood of the day and promote self-care,” stated Mia Kazanjian, MD, co-director of Stamford Health’s Breast Center & chief of women’s imaging. “Mammograms are the gold standard way to detect breast cancer early and reduce mortality. We are always thinking about how to empower women to take care of their health, and I hope this concept brings that to more and more women.”

Stamford Health’s Breast Center provides comprehensive programs and services for patients, helping them navigate their breast care journey at every stage. Stamford Health’s breast care team includes specialists in the fields of imaging and surgery who work together with caregivers from the Bennett Cancer Center to develop the best treatment and care plan for each patient. Stamford Health’s Bennett Cancer Center has a robust relationship with Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center, offering patients virtual second opinions, access to the latest clinical trials and the most advanced evidence-based best practices and standards in cancer treatment and research.

“The earlier breast cancer is diagnosed, the better the chances are for recovery,” added Sarah Cate, MD, chief of breast surgery and co-director of Stamford Health’s Breast Center. “We hope that by providing women with an opportunity to practice self-care and partake in something fun after their appointment, they’ll be more likely to stay on top of this important screening.”

Offering mammography services at additional locations in Greenwich, Wilton and Darien, Stamford Health aims to meet the growing needs of the community, closer to home. The Glammogram experience will be offered to patients who schedule a mammogram or screening at Stamford Health’s Breast Center at Tully Health Center on the following Saturday’s during the summer: June 1, July 6, and August 10.
