After training in Pain Medicine at The Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, CA, Dr. Wellisch stayed on as an attending physician in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine. Dr. Wellisch practiced clinically at the Stanford Pain Center, a leading multidisciplinary outpatient referral center for the Western United States. He also functioned as an educator to medical students, residents and fellows at Stanford and conducted research in Molecular Neuroscience as well as on the “patient experience.” His team’s work on evaluation and optimization of the “patient experience” received accolades at The American Academy of Pain Medicine Annual meeting in 2015. He has published numerous articles and medical reviews and has been invited to serve as guest reviewer for various medical specialty journals.
After returning home to the East Coast with his wife and three children, Dr. Wellisch set out to build a practice at a Mount Sinai — Icahn School of Medicine affiliate hospital in New Jersey. In 2017, as Assistant Director of Pain Medicine, Dr. Wellisch was recognized as “Top Doctor” in Bergen County and his hospital’s Pain Management program ascended to rank #1 in New Jersey by Castle Connolly.
As Chief of the Division of Pain Management at Stamford Health, Dr. Wellisch is currently focused on establishing the Stamford Health Pain Center as a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary care facility to serve our community and beyond.
