At our acute inpatient rehabilitation program—the Van Munching Rehabilitation Unit—our goal is to treat individuals who have experienced a disabling illness, injury or the exacerbation of a chronic illness. We offer spacious, private patient rooms with easy access to the well-equipped therapy gym as well as Stamford Hospital services. Comprehensive inpatient medical rehabilitation services are provided for patients to restore their mobility, independence, and quality of life so they can return home and transition into community living.

Care and treatment is provided by our qualified, multidisciplinary team of experienced, healthcare professionals consisting of board certified rehabilitation physicians; physical, occupational, recreational, and speech-language therapists; rehabilitation nurses; certified case managers; social workers; neuropsychologists, and dietitians. Everyone admitted to the Van Munching Rehabilitation Unit is evaluated within 24 hours of admission by a Board Certified Physiatrist (a physician specializing in rehabilitative medicine) who provides 24 hour medical coverage. The individualized care plan will consist of either physical, occupational, or speech therapy performed for three hours per day, 5 days a week with two days of a modified schedule.
