If you’re interested in a career as an independent family physician, the Family Medicine Residency Program offers a chance to gain the knowledge necessary to pursue this career. Established in 1977, the program trains residents to be excellent family physicians by applying the family practice principles of comprehensiveness, continuity, compassion, personal care, prevention, community involvement, family orientation, and commitment to continuing education throughout the residency experience.
Through lectures, consultation with our excellent specialists, formal reading assignments, discussion with faculty, and (most importantly) managing their own patients, the opportunity is virtually limitless for residents to expand their knowledge base in the area of family practice.
The Stamford Hospital/Columbia University Family Medicine Residency Program selects five candidates each year through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for first-year positions. We require strong academic performance in medical school as well as on the United States Medical Licensing Examinations and a minimum of three Letters of Recommendation.
