Orthopedic & Spine Institute at Chelsea Piers Connecticut Opens

Published: March 26, 2013

Stamford Hospital is pleased to announce its Orthopedic & Spine Institute at Chelsea Piers Connecticut (CPCT) will open on April 1. The facility provides patients with convenient access to a range of services including consultation with orthopedic and spine surgeons, imaging and integrative medicine. In addition, the 18,500-square-foot space offers motion analysis and a special program dedicated to athletes and performing artists.

The Orthopedic & Spine Institute offers advanced and comprehensive care for patients with injuries affecting their bones, joints and muscles. With expertise in total joint replacement and complex spine surgery, it became the first in the region to receive Joint Commission certification for total hip and total knee replacement and spine fusion.
The program also offers orthopedic services to treat injuries and conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity as well as the foot and ankle. It also specializes in the practice of sports medicine, treating athletes of all ages and skill levels.

“We are proud to bring our full range of orthopedic, spine and sports medicine services to Chelsea Piers Connecticut and its convenient location,” said Vicki Hoffman, Stamford Hospital Service Line Director, Orthopedics. “Our goal is to provide the community with the care they need to maintain an active lifestyle. This includes two new programs – Motion Analysis and Athletes and the Arts.”

In the Motion Analysis Program, experts will provide patients with motion and biomechanical analysis for specific movement. The dual assessment utilizes eight cameras and leading-edge optical technologies as well as a powerful software tool to analyze any type of movement with a dynamic, 3D avatar that can be viewed by any angle and any speed. The reports generated by the analysis can be used by a practitioner, coach or trainer who may recommend training programs that may enhance movement and/or sports performance. This program will be available beginning in June.

Athletes and the Arts, a collaborative effort of Stamford Hospital’s Orthopedic & Spine Institute and Center for Integrative Medicine and Wellness, is designed to optimize performance in competitive sports and the performing arts including gymnastics. Physicians will address issues including nutrition, performance anxiety and pain management using modalities such as acupuncture, trigger point injections, guided imagery and counseling on nutrition and supplements. Promoted by the American College of Sports Medicine and Performing Arts Medicine Association, this national program creates opportunities for athletes and performing artists to access and benefit from established research, training and education.

Stamford Hospital’s relationship with CPCT extends beyond it orthopedic and spine services. The Hospital is a facility-wide sponsor and Official Hospital of CPCT.
