Stamford CT, May 10, 2022 – Stamford Hospital received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022, the only hospital in Fairfield County to achieve this merit. Of the 28 hospitals in Connecticut, Stamford Hospital was one of 9, to receive an ‘A’ rating. This national distinction recognizes Stamford Hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error in the hospital.
“I am so proud of our staff and physicians across the organization for their unwavering dedication to patient safety and high-quality outcomes, even during the varied surges of the COVID-19 pandemic," stated Dr. Rohit Bhalla, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical and Quality Officer. “This achievement is a testament to the safety-focused and person-centered care our teams deliver to our patients each and every day.”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on nearly thirty national performance measures reflecting potential errors, complications, infections, patient experience, and systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“This recognition truly reflects our employees’ commitment to upholding our vision of being the most trusted healthcare partner for the communities we serve,” added President and CEO, Kathleen Silard. “Our staff is our most precious resource, and I am honored to work alongside such an incredible team of expert and compassionate healthcare professionals.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital patient safety. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Stamford Health for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”
