Stamford Health Is One of Connecticut’s Highest-Quality Hospitals

According to Recent Recognitions from Leapfrog, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the American Nurses Credentialing Center

STAMFORD, CT, May 11, 2021 – Stamford Hospital has received both an “A” Hospital Safety rating from Leapfrog and a “5 Star” Overall Quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). These recognitions follow Stamford Hospital’s re-accreditation with Magnet Status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which was announced last week. Stamford Health is the only hospital in the state of Connecticut to hold Leapfrog “A” and CMS 5-star ratings, along with Magnet designation concurrently.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national, nonprofit dedicated to improving healthcare quality and safety, last week released its Spring 2021 Hospital Safety Score grades. Stamford Hospital was once again recognized with an “A.” Among 28 Connecticut hospitals rated by Leapfrog, 29% received an “A”. Stamford Hospital remains the only hospital in Fairfield County to achieve this distinction.  Stamford Hospital was able to maintain their “A” score primarily due to strong overall performance in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare in areas such as infection prevention.

Additionally, Stamford Hospital has also received a five-star Overall Quality rating from CMS (on a scale of one to five stars.) Among 37 Connecticut hospitals receiving a star rating, 11% received five stars. 14% of U.S. acute care hospitals received five stars.    Stamford Hospital performed favorably across all CMS reported quality measures, with strength in safety, infection prevention, readmission, and clinical outcomes.
