U.S. News & World Report Ranks Stamford Hospital
as one of Connecticut’s High Performing hospitals

STAMFORD, CT/July 31, 2019 – U.S. News & World Report (USNWR), an authority on hospital rankings, has recognized Stamford Hospital as a High Performing hospital for 2019-2020. Stamford is one of seven hospitals in Connecticut to receive recognition for three or more areas of care, and one of 15 hospitals in Connecticut to have earned a distinction. Of over 4,500 hospitals evaluated nationally for Best Hospitals, approximately 31 percent earned some form of recognition.

“It is an honor for Stamford Hospital to be recognized as a High Performing hospital by U.S. News & World Report,” said Kathleen Silard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Stamford Health. “We are proud to earn this distinction. It reflects our commitment to caring for patients at the highest level.”

Among the measures used by USNWR this year, Stamford’s High Performing recognition was driven by favorable performance in the areas of orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery, and heart failure care.

“Stamford Health’s High Performing recognition in orthopedics further confirms our decision to collaborate,” said Louis Shapiro, President and CEO of Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), which is nationally ranked #1 in orthopedics for the tenth consecutive year. “We congratulate Stamford Health on this honor and are proud to now together provide the highest caliber orthopedic care in Connecticut.”

Key performance drivers across these three areas include service volumes, favorable process and mortality measures, adoption of advanced technologies, and Magnet® designation for nursing excellence.
