STAMFORD, CT/January 26, 2018 – Stamford Health is pleased to announce that John Ciannella, MD, of Wilton has been named Associate Director of the Division of Neonatology in the Department of Pediatrics. In this new role, Dr. Ciannella is responsible for bringing physicians assistants and neonatal nurse practitioners into the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), a new initiative in the department, as well as overseeing the care and development of newborns, including immediate treatment of any medical emergencies should they arise during delivery.
“Dr. Ciannella’s expertise and specialized knowledge in evaluating and treating newborns, including the most high-risk situations, is an asset among our team of trained experts as well as the infants and families we care for each day,” said Gerald Rakos, MD, Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Stamford Health. “Neonatology is incredibly important to both Stamford Health’s pediatric and obstetric programs, where our teams work constantly to ensure the highest quality of care. Dr. Ciannella brings a high level of training, leadership experience and has been an integral part of our division since day one.”
In 2011, Dr. Ciannella joined Stamford Health as a neonatologist after completing his residency in pediatrics and fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New York, part of the Northwell Health System. Board-certified in both pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine, Dr. Ciannella received his medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine – Grenada.
