Stamford Health Team Receives National Surgical Nursing Leadership Award

Recognized for Continuous Advancement by Competency & Credentialing Institute

The perioperative nursing team at Stamford Health recently received the 2017 TrueNorth award from the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI). CCI honors perioperative nursing facilities whose “true north” focus guides the nursing staff to be lifelong learners and models of continuous outstanding patient care in the surgical setting. The team at Stamford Health was selected from among many health organizations across the country because of the perioperative department’s dedication to providing high-quality healthcare in a patient-centered environment as well as for the innovative programs and procedures in place.

“It is important to not only acknowledge when our nurses become certified, but also help them through the entire CNOR certification process. We’re constantly providing the support our nurses need and identifying opportunities for professional advancement – all with the goal of providing our patients with the best outcomes,” said Faith Dorio, MSN, RN, VHA-CM, Executive Director, Perioperative Services at Stamford Health. “Our staff are highly motivated and pay close attention to every patients’ needs. I am proud to see our team receive this well-deserved award.”

Stamford Health supports its operating room nurses through the entire process of becoming certified perioperative nurses (CNOR-certified). This includes a CNOR coach that is available to all staff, annual free on-site CNOR prep courses, a lending library and programs that offer free contact hours that may be used for recertification.

“Stamford Hospital truly sets the standard for support of nursing certification. It is both a pleasure and an honor to see this facility bring to life the best practices we have seen to support the professional development of perioperative nurses,” said Dr. Jim Stobinski, acting chief executive officer of CCI. “The enthusiasm and dedication of the entire staff to include the most senior nursing leadership is very inspiring.”

As the only certification body for perioperative nurses, CCI is one of the largest specialty nursing credentialing organizations. The mission of CCI is to lead competency credentialing that promotes safe, quality patient care and lifelong learning. CCI developed the TrueNorth Award program primarily based on the organization’s firm beliefs in the role specialty nursing certification plays in quality patient care. Registered nurses are required to validate their specialized knowledge through the rigorous CNOR certification exam process. Certification in many ways acts as a compass directing a nurse’s clinical practice towards industry accepted standards.
