The cardiac testing centers at Stamford Hospital and the Tully Health Center along with the Hospital’s Echocardiography Laboratory have each been granted a three-year accreditation in the areas of Adult Stress Echocardiography and Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. Early detection of life-threatening heart disorders and disease is possible through the use of echocardiography testing procedures. While these testing procedures are important, there are many other facets that contribute to an accurate diagnosis. This includes the skill of the echocardiography sonographer, type of equipment used, background and knowledge of the interpreting physicians and quality assurance measures of the site are each critical to quality patient testing.
The accreditation serves as a “seal of approval” for patients and indicates that the facility has been carefully critiqued by echocardiography experts during a thorough review of operational and technical components. The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to provide quality patient care in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process that includes a detailed case study review.
The IAC provides accreditation programs for vascular testing, echocardiography, nuclear/PET, MRI, diagnostic CT, dental CT, carotid stenting and vein center. These programs are dedicated to ensuring quality patient care and improving healthcare through accreditation. For more information about the IAC, please visit www.intersocietal.org/echo.
