Stamford Hospital Encourages Heart Health for Valentine's Day

Published: January 28, 2014

While many think flowers and candy might be the secret to Valentine’s Day, experts at Stamford Hospital want to remind everyone that keeping your heart healthy might be the best gift for you and your loved ones.

As part of its participation in American Heart Month, Stamford Hospital is again hosting its annual “Celebrating Healthy Hearts” event on Saturday, February 8, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Court in Stamford. The free event will address medical, interventional and surgical treatments for heart disease.

“Celebrating Healthy Hearts” will start with a discussion on the “State of the Heart 2014” led by Stamford Hospital’s Lori Mosca, MPD, PhD, who is considered an international authority on cardiovascular disease and prevention. The event will also feature the American Heart Association’s “Faces of Heart,” a traveling photo gallery that exhibits stories of courage, strength and hope in the face of cardiovascular diseases and stroke and kick off its “Better U” program, a 12-week course that teaches women more about heart health, eating healthy and exercising.

During the Healthy Hearts event, there also will be health screenings available for attendees, including blood pressure, stroke risk assessments, cholesterol and glucose (non-fasting) and pulmonary function tests. Experts will provide a hands-only CPR demonstration and training session, called Hands for Life, from 12:00- 1:00 p.m. Registration, along with the exhibit hall, screenings and refreshments, will begin at 9:00 a.m.
