Arun Nandi, MD, Named Chair of Emergency Medicine

Sharon Kiely, MD, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Stamford Health today announced the appointment of Arun Nandi, MD, FACEP as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine as of April 1, 2016.

In this role, Dr. Nandi will oversee the administration and management of trauma and emergency services provided in the Emergency Department at Stamford Hospital; the Immediate Care Center at 32 Strawberry Hill Court in Stamford; and the Stamford Health Urgent Care Centers at 497 Westport Avenue, Norwalk and 2001 West Main Street, Stamford.

Prior to joining Stamford Health, Dr. Nandi was Chairman of Emergency Medicine & Observation Services at Columbia Memorial Hospital and Director of Emergency Medical Services at Columbia County EMS & Disaster Response in Hudson, New York. Earlier in his career he served as Director and Chairman of the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, New York.

“Dr. Nandi brings extensive experience to our program as we enter a new, exciting era of healthcare,” said Sharon Kiely, MD, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer, Stamford Health. “His background, combined with a strong sense of patient-centered care, will guide the continued expansion of our trauma, cardiac, urgent care, behavioral health and pediatric emergency capabilities for the community in the new Emergency Department opening at the end of September.”

Dr. Nandi received his medical degree from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Madras University, where he also completed a residency in General Surgery. In addition, he completed two fellowships abroad, one in General Surgery at Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and another in Burns, Trauma & Reconstruction at Royal College of Surgeons of London.

Dr. Nandi completed research in wound healing at Stony Brook University in New York and then completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Jacobi and Montefiore hospitals, in Bronx, New York. He holds several certifications, including Board Certification from American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM); Fellowship of American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP); Certification in Plastic Surgery from Royal College of Surgeons of London; and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS). He is active in International Emergency Medicine and is a Visiting Professor at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).
