Miriam Harel

Miriam Harel, MD

About Me

Dr. Harel was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated with honors from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College, and received her medical degree at the top of her class from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Harel stayed at SUNY Downstate Medical Center to complete her urology residency training. Subsequently, she finally left New York to pursue a fellowship in pediatric urology at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. During the clinical year of her fellowship, Dr. Harel was well-trained in all aspects of pediatric urology but developed a particular interest in reconstructive surgery of the kidneys, bladder, and male urethra. She then chose to explore basic science research in the laboratory at University of Connecticut Health Center for the remainder of her fellowship training. Her research focused on identification of urinary biomarkers of renal injury in the setting of congenital urinary tract obstruction. Dr. Harel thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to understand and impact the disease process at the ground level, and she decided to extend her fellowship and spend an additional year in the laboratory to further develop her investigational skills. In 2015, she was awarded a grant from the American Association of Pediatric Urologists to support her research in biomarkers of injury in the setting of ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction. Dr. Harel has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the field of pediatric urology and has presented her research at numerous national and international meetings. Dr. Harel joined Pediatric Urology Associates (PUA) in 2016. She now lives in Stamford CT. She sees patients weekly at our office on High Ridge Road. She performs surgery at both Tully Health Center and Stamford Hospital. She is excited to provide comprehensive urologic care for patients in Stamford.
