Dr. Jo Hannafin is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon that specializes in sports medicine. She sees patients in NYC and at the HSS Stamford Outpatient Center.
Dr. Hannafin has been a lifelong athlete She’s a prior national team lightweight rower and a current Masters rower and cyclist. Her passion for sports naturally led her to her medical career. She’s worked with every level of athlete — from high school students to professional athletes and even Olympians. She currently serves as Team Physician for the New York Liberty (WNBA) and United States Rowing Team.
She has been recognized for excellence throughout her career. Her recent awards include:

- O’Donoghue Award for Excellence in Research from American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (2014)

In addition to providing outstanding inpatient and outpatient care, Dr. Hannafin participates in the development of her field. Throughout her career, she’s been heavily involved in research. She’s a professor of orthopedic surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She has also published many scientific articles and book chapters. In 2007, Dr. Hannafin co-authored a book, Say Goodbye to Knee Pain.
