Following his training in surgical oncology, Dr. Gajdos was on the faculty at the University of Colorado Department of Surgery for over seven years. He also worked at the Denver VA Medical Center where he was Chief of Surgical Oncology.

He quickly became one of the busiest surgical oncologists at UC and performed complex GI cancer, melanoma and sarcoma surgeries at both hospitals on a regular basis. Additionally, he served on multiple hospital committees and was a Cancer Liaison Physician for the UC Cancer Center for three years. He was also heavily involved with resident and medical student education.

Dr. Gajdos is primarily interested in the surgical management of cancers of the esophagus, stomach, small and large bowel, liver, biliary tree and pancreas. He also has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of melanomas, sarcomas and peritoneal surface malignancies via hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) procedures. In selected patients, Dr. Gajdos performs various cancer surgeries laparoscopically.

His work has been recognized with the following awards: Faculty Teaching Award for General Surgery Resident Education; Docs Rock Award (bedside manner and promoting patient safety); Best Clinical Paper Award Finalist (49th International Congress of the European Society of Surgical Research); and Peak Performer Award General Surgery (voted on by the providers of Colorado in recognition of team-based care, professionalism and clinical excellence).

Published Work

Dr. Gajdos is interested in surgical outcomes research in surgical oncology and general surgery. He has authored and co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific papers in various prestigious surgical and medical journals.
