Dr. Cornell is fellowship trained and board certified in orthopedic surgery. He specializes in adult reconstructive surgery and lower extremity total joint replacement.
Dr. Cornell has been on staff at the Hospital for Special Surgery since 1986. In 2016, he joined the Stamford Health team and was named chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery in March 2017. He now leads the new orthopedic surgery collaboration between the Hospital for Special Surgery and Stamford Health.
Dr. Cornell has written 88 articles about his research in adult reconstructive surgery that have been published in peer-reviewed orthopedic journals. His current research interests include pain management following total knee replacement (TKR) surgery, and the benefits of clinical pathways as applied to total knee and hip replacement.
Dr. Cornell has a special interest in orthopedic surgery medical publications. He is editor-in-chief of the HSS Journal and serves as an associate editor of clinical orthopedics and related research for The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and The Journal of Orthopedic Trauma.
