Amy Smithline, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist with more than 25 years of experience. She provides care at Stamford Health’s Heartburn, Reflux, and Esophageal Specialty Center.
Dr. Smithline completed her medical education at Northwestern University Medical School. She completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. She also completed an additional fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Indiana University School of Medicine.
As a gastroenterologist, Dr. Smithline cares for patients with conditions that affect the digestive tract, from the esophagus to the colon. She has taken a special interest in minimally invasive studies of the esophagus, including wireless pH studies and high-resolution esophageal motility studies. These diagnostic techniques can help diagnose esophageal conditions like Barrett’s esophagus.
Dr. Smithline is also an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. In this position, she helps teach medical students, residents and fellows to provide quality gastroenterology care.
