Pharmacy at Stamford Hospital
Stamford Hospital’s pharmacy service features clinical medication review and unit dose dispensing for inpatients and outpatients. Collaborating with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals, we strive to ensure that optimal and individualized drug therapy is available for every patient.
Clinical functions include:
- rounding with medical and surgical teams
- medication therapy consults, educational inservices
- patient counseling through our Ask the Pharmacist program
To ensure medication safety, the pharmacy utilizes advanced automation systems for drug storage and inventory, decentralized computerized medication cabinetry, unit dose packaging, carousel medication storage, and bedside medication verification with barcode scanning. Sterile intravenous products are prepared in certified cleanroom environments to assure product safety. The electronic environment is utilized to the greatest extent possible by consistent compliance with our computerized physician order entry system which allows for order review by our pharmacists promptly and efficiently.
Our patients have the opportunity to speak with a pharmacist upon discharge. In addition, an illustrated medication education brochure offers information on side effects and drug indications.
