What is pediatric ophthalmology?
A child's vision system grows significantly in the first several years of his or her life. Pediatric ophthalmology involves the treatment and diagnosis of eye disorders, visual development, and vision care in children.
What conditions do pediatric ophthalmologists treat?
- Misalignment of the eyes (strabismus)
- Uncorrected refractive error (myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism)
- Amblyopia (“lazy eye”) caused by assymmetry of refractive error (anisometropia) between eyes
