Cohen Children's Institute
The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Children’s Institute at Stamford Health provides a breadth of advanced care options from our tiniest patients to our young adults from highly-trained pediatricians. Featuring thoughtfully designed, family-friendly spaces and equipment built specifically for kids, the Institute is comprised of:
Cohen Pediatric Emergency Department: The only comprehensive emergency department in lower Fairfield County that features a child-friendly space separate from the adult emergency department, staffed by physicians with advanced pediatric emergency training. 
Cohen Children’s Inpatient Unit: We are the only hospital in lower Fairfield County with pediatric hospitalists providing advanced in-house, family-friendly care 24/7. The unit includes spacious, private rooms designed for parents who are working or staying overnight. Several rooms allow for closer monitoring of children with more complex needs.
The Cohen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Our award-winning Level III NICU is staffed 24/7 by experienced neonatologists, nurses, and pediatric experts who work closely with maternal-fetal medicine specialists.
Cohen Children’s Specialty Center: We've assembled a team of highly-qualified pediatric specialists — most with faculty appointments at top-ranked medical institutions including Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and other prominent children's medical centers — to deliver the exceptional care and compassion your child deserves.
Pediatric Surgery: Routine and complex surgeries are performed here by our board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons.

Meet Our Chair
Gerald Rakos, MD, FAAP, serves as the Department of Pediatrics Chair and the Division of Neonatology Director at Stamford Health. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine.
Dr. Rakos graduated from SUNY Upstate Medical University. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and his fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
