Spine Conditions We Treat
Personalized care for the most complex conditions
We understand that back pain related to spinal deformity, injury, or congenital conditions can be debilitating. That’s why our Orthopedic & Spine Institute provides more comprehensive spine care and more complex spine surgeries than any other community hospital in Fairfield County. We are experienced in treating conditions such as:
- Spinal fractures
- Spinal infections
- Spinal stenosis
- Spondylolisthesis (displaced vertebra)
- Spondylosis (compression of the space between vertebrae)
Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to your spine care. We’re made of surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, physical therapists, pain-management specialists and physiatrists (rehabilitation physicians), who are experienced in treating the most challenging spinal problems. An integral member of our team is the clinical care coordinator, who helps prepare all patients and remains with them every step of the way, through discharge and after.
Non-surgical services we offer include physical and occupational therapy, steroid injections and other medications, braces and pain management. We work with the Center for Integrative Medicine and Wellness to help manage your pain to the best of our ability.
Stamford Health specializes in minimally invasive spinal surgery procedures, when possible. Fortunately, many spine problems don't require surgical correction, but for those that do, minimally invasive surgery may be a treatment option. We can perform spinal fusion, scoliosis correction, and herniated disc repair without traditional open surgery. These small-incision procedures result in much shorter hospital stays, less recovery time and greatly reduced scarring.
To ensure patient safety, we have physicians who monitor the spinal cord and nerves throughout surgery. We also use an image-guided stereotactic surgery system that allows us to see the surgical area clearly and carefully control the position of the instruments to protect the delicate nervous system structures.
Our Van Munching Rehabilitation unit is conveniently located right in the hospital. If you meet certain clinical criteria, you can be followed by the very same spine care team you had pre- and postoperatively. Should you need pain management or physical therapy, we’ll serve you directly at the Tully Health Center.
