Staying Up to Date with COVID-19 Boosters
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, including all boosters recommended for their age group. Here are the current recommendations for the updated booster:
- For children ages 6 months – 4 years old, the only authorized mRNA booster available at Stamford Health is the Pfizer bivalent booster, which will be administered as the third primary dose of the Pfizer primary series. Children in this age group who already completed their primary series will not be eligible for a bivalent booster dose at this time. (Children ages 6 months through 5 years who previously completed a Moderna primary series are eligible to receive a Moderna bivalent booster two months after their primary series, however Stamford Health is not offering Moderna at this time.)
- For children ages 5 to 17 years old, the only authorized mRNA booster available at Stamford Health is the Pfizer bivalent booster, which can be administered two months after receiving the primary series of any COVID-19 vaccine or the most recent booster dose.
- For anyone 18 or older who received their primary vaccine series or booster at least two months ago, the only booster available at Stamford Health is the Pfizer bivalent booster.
- Anyone who is immunocompromised may be eligible for a bivalent booster. Use the CDC's COVID-19 booster tool to understand if you're up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations.
- Those eligible for booster shots may receive either Moderna or Pfizer vaccines; it doesn't matter which vaccine someone received for their primary series. However, Stamford Health is currently offering the Pfizer vaccine only.
