Stamford Hospital Receives Top Hospital Safety Score from Leapfrog

Stamford Hospital received an “A” in the most recent Hospital Safety Score released on October 31 by The Leapfrog Group. With grades ranging from A to F, Stamford Hospital is among 32 percent of hospitals in the U.S., and one of only seven hospitals in Connecticut, to receive the top grade. The Leapfrog Group uses a subset of the many publicly reported quality measures, and stresses measures related to patient safety, including adoption of safe practices, processes to prevent hospital complications and methods to prevent hospital-acquired infections.

“I am proud of the efforts made by every individual, every day, and at every level across the organization, to maintain a safe care environment with a keen focus on evidence-based care practices,” said Rohit Bhalla, MD, MPH, Vice President and Chief Quality Officer, Stamford Health. “We are pleased to receive the Leapfrog rating, one of several external recognitions that validate our hospital’s dedication to drive the best outcomes for our patients.”

Stamford Health continues to strive for excellence in areas covered by the Leapfrog report. These include information technology with safety checking features, consistent use of safe practices, protocols and checklists to standardize care, and practice bundles to minimize the risk of infection.
