Stamford Hospital Recognized by Women's Choice Award in Five Areas
Stamford Hospital received five 2015 Women’s Choice Awards®, recognizing it as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care, Obstetrics, Cancer Care, Best Breast Center and Best Stroke Center. These awards signify Stamford Hospital’s commitment and passion toward delivering an extraordinary healthcare experience to women and all patients. By carrying the Women’s Choice Award seal, Stamford Hospital is a member of an elite network of hospitals committed to a global mission of empowering women to make informed healthcare choices.
“We understand that women remain the primary healthcare decision maker for themselves and their families,” said Kathleen Silard, RN, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Stamford Hospital. “Having our programs recognized by the Women’s Choice Award is an honor and reinforces our goal to ensure patients are treated with the highest level of care in a personalized and compassionate setting.”
The America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care list is determined by first identifying the top 25% of hospitals across the nation that offer a minimum number of cardiac and/or vascular services. Only hospitals that perform well clinically with regard to heart care measures reported to Medicare and also have a high Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) score are selected. The award criteria include patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and what women really want when it comes to treatment and a quality hospital experience. Stamford Hospital’s Heart & Vascular Institute offers the most comprehensive cardiac services in the region.
Stamford Hospital also received the 2015 Women’s Choice Award as an America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics for the second consecutive year. This designation is unique in that it is the only evidence-based award that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and what women say they want from a hospital. It identifies those hospitals that offer obstetric services that also ranked above the national average for HCAHPS recommendations. Additional credit is given for having a NICU on-site. Stamford Hospital’s Obstetrics Services provide an exceptional level of care and an unwavering commitment to meet the many health needs of women and their families.
Stamford Hospital earned the 2015 Women’s Choice Award for Cancer Care by meeting the highest cancer care accreditation standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, as well as for excellence in clinical performance with regard to patient safety measures and a high recommendation rate – a measure that is very important to women in choosing a hospital. Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Cancer Center has been providing the highest standard of clinical care in the area coupled with unique support services for more than 20 years.
Being recognized as a Best Breast Center signifies that Stamford Hospital has met the highest standards in caring for the needs of female patients, as well as meeting the rigorous standards of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and carting the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence seal from the American College of Radiology. The Hospital also received above-average patient recommendation ratings according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Stamford Hospital’s Breast Center offers comprehensive and individualized treatment, including diagnostic and imaging services, breast surgery and pathology, specialized programs for high-risk patients, the services of a nurse navigator and more.
In order to receive the Women’s Choice Award for America’s Best Stroke Centers, Stamford Hospital’s Stroke Center ranked above the national average for the recommendation rate from the CMS’ HCAHPS. The America’s Best Stroke Centers scoring process begins with identifying those hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center or an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, which recognizes centers that meet high standards for stroke care as determined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
