Stamford Hospital Names New Chair of Radiology
Brian Stainken, MD, FACR, FSIR, FCIRSE, has joined Stamford Hospital as the new Chair, Department of Radiology. In this role, Dr. Stainken will oversee all imaging services across the organization and ensure collaboration across divisions drive the highest standards of care, quality and outcomes for our patients, referring physicians and the institution as a whole. This includes Diagnostic Imaging, Teleradiology, Breast Imaging, Radiation Oncology, Multidisciplinary Imaging and all imaging performed in other departments.
“Dr. Stainken’s advanced and specialized knowledge in imaging will add significant depth to Stamford Hospital's state-of-the-art, 24-hour radiology department,” said Sharon Kiely, MD, MPM, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer, Stamford Hospital. “Our team works together constantly to bring new ideas and procedures to our practice, and ensure we’re consistently delivering the highest level of care possible. Dr. Stainken’s extensive training and leadership experience will strongly complement these efforts.
Most recently Dr. Stainken served as the Chair of Radiology at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Radiology at Boston University School of Medicine since 2006. Previously Dr. Stainken held attending physician and academic positions in the Departments of Radiology at the University of Maryland, Albany Medical College, University of California, San Diego and the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton in California.
Dr. Stainken received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his medical degree from Georgetown University Medical School. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at San Diego Naval Hospital and a Fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has held leadership positions with the Society of Interventional Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America, as well as regional Interventional Radiology and Radiological societies.
